The Professional Numismatists Guild is the association that all coin dealers want to be in. It is also known in dealer circles in its shortened form PNG transparent It’s an exclusive association that kind of serves a registration board for coin dealers. To join the guild, one must undergo a thorough check and must be subject to their strict rules and regulations. They don’t go allowing just anybody to join them. Some of the factors that they might put into consideration might be things such as the experience one has, the coins one might have in their collection. They might ask questions like how knowledgeable are you in the specialty coins you carry.
There aren’t more than 500 dealers the world over who are members of the PNG. These are very few in comparison to the number of coin dealers found across the globe. This is really for the best, especially for those of us in the market for a coin dealer. This means that the bar has been set very high, and for sure all dealers must be striving to get there. So everyone tries to be the best in their field, and in general in line with the requirements for joining the guild.
Even if it’s not the PNG, dealers should be in a reputable association. Being in an association doesn’t necessarily mean you gain points, but in reality if you are in one of good repute and favor, makes you a more reliable dealer. You are also a notch above the dealer who is not affiliated to any society or association.
